Quilting Retreat

Welcome to Our Quilting Retreat Page

Welcome Quilters and Stitchers!

Hi and welcome to our Quilter’s Retreat. Our home is our guest house, Douglas Park, which has prime location on the seafront is situated in the village of Kirn, 1 mile outside the peninsula coastal town of Dunoon, on the West coast of Argyll.

During our ten very successful years in Douglas Park we have welcomed many visitors who have enjoyed our 4-star, award winning hospitality together with beautiful rooms, log fire, home baking, unsurpassed views and a welcome like no other. A wonderful time is guaranteed! ….Check out our many splendid reviews online.

Shona has always enjoyed sewing… cross-stitch, quilting, knitting and crochet. Her experience in the hospitality world combined with her love of stitching is key to our success. Sadly Shona passed away in February 2020 after a courageous fight with cancer, but her love of quilting and all things sewing lives on. Her retreats continue with the same love and laughter. Ladies enjoy returning with their machines, fabrics and sewing gear for a few days of ‘fabrication’

Quality Quilting Enjoyment

A few years ago, a lovely group of ladies stayed with us and enjoyed undisturbed quality quilting time, and the idea of a Quilt Retreat was born.

Just imagine …

… for selected four-day periods in Spring & Autumn, you could enjoy the cosy confines of Douglas Park providing you with a home away from home, but with no house work, no cooking, no distractions, just quality quilting enjoyment with like-minded friends who will understand the trauma of a wonky windmill or the overwhelming joy of perfect piecing.

We are now in our sixth year of retreats and we, like our ladies, are enjoying them! So much fun and companionship. The weekend is very relaxed with no tutors. Set your own agenda, sew whenever you feel like it, call along to our local wonderful sewing shop in Kirn, read a book, have a snooze! There is no rules. Breakfast, light lunch and dinner is served and included in the price, as is morning coffee and afternoon tea with home baking.

Pack your bags … Bring your sewing machine and something to get busy with!

So pack your bags, bring your sewing machine, fabrics, ufo’s, then head to our work room where you will find individual work stations, ironing facilities, plenty of sockets, good light and friends. Your retreat typically starts on a Thursday afternoon and runs through to Sunday, late morning.

Set your own agenda. Sew all day! Or head out along the seafront and explore the Clyde Coast with a lovely walk. Why not pop into town for some shopping? We have a fabulous sewing/knitting/fabric shop 5 minutes walk from the house.

Here’s a few comments from our quilting ladies…
